What is an INSTANT POWER battery? |
| INSTANT POWER batteries
are disposable (one-time use) replacement batteries for your
cellular telephone. INSTANT POWER battery technology is similar
to everyday alkaline battery technology, which also produces
electrical energy through the controlled oxidation of zinc.
But while alkaline batteries keep their oxygen inside the
can in a chemical compound called manganese dioxide, INSTANT
POWER batteries draw their oxygen from the atmosphere. |
|
|
2. How do I use the INSTANT
POWER battery?
|
|
|
The battery comes fully charged, so simply
open the foil package and attach the battery to your cellular
phone as you would a rechargeable battery. When it finishes,
you dispose of it as you would any alkaline battery.
|
| 3. What is the
reclosable pouch used for? |
| Once out of its
original foil bag, the battery will drain power when exposed
to air. To preserve freshness, keep it stored in the reclosabel
pouch, ensuring it is properly sealed. |
| 4.
With which cellular phone models can I use my INSTANT POWER
battery? |
|
- Nokia 7100, 6100 & 5100 series (see the list of specific
models here)
- Ericsson 600, 800, 1000 and 1200 series (see the list
of specific models here)
- Motorola StarTAC series (excluding StarTAC 3000 - see
the list of specific models here)
- Samsung SCH-350

| 5.
How long will it last? |
|
|
Once you open the package and start using
an INSTANT POWER battery, it will typically give your cellular
phone about 3 to 5 times the working capacity that you get
today with a regular rechargeable battery. For example,
if today you get 3 days of standby plus 2 hours of talking
from your regular rechargeable, multiply all that by 3 to
5 times, and that's what we expect you will get with an
INSTANT POWER battery. We cannot give you an exact figure
of how long you can talk or keep your phone on standby,
because that depends on many factors, including the type
of wireless system (analog, digital, GSM, etc.), phone model,
and even how far you are from the wireless carrier's antennas.
Each INSTANT POWER battery provides 3300 mAh (milli-ampere-hours)
of capacity, compared with the 700 - 900 mAh typical of
most rechargeable phone batteries today.
|
| 6.
Can it be used in a hands-free set? |
|
|
The Nokia phone can be safely used with its
INSTANT POWER battery in a hands-free set (though it will
display that it cannot charge the battery). To use your
Motorola StarTAC phone in a hands-free set, you must remove
the auxiliary battery before placing it in. The Ericsson
battery cannot be used in a hands-free set.
|
| 7.
Can it be recharged? |
|
| INSTANT POWER
batteries are not rechargeable. They are designed for one-time
use, providing the consumer with maximum capacity talk time
while freeing the user from the disruptive and inconvenient
necessity of recharging. |
| 8.
What happens if I plug the phone into the charger with the
INSTANT POWER battery inside? |
|
| The INSTANT POWER
battery must not be recharged. The Nokia phone identifies
our battery as a primary, non-rechargeable battery, and does
not charge even if it is connected to a charger, cigarette
lighter adaptor (CLA) or a hands-free set. The phone will
display that it can't charge. The INSTANT POWER battery for
the Ericsson phone models has a special plastic tab on the
bottom of the battery that covers the phone's charging socket
in order to prevent accidental charging. (The tab may be broken
off in the event that you need to connect a non-charging device
such as a headset or a data port.)
|
| 9.
How do I dispose of it? Is it recyclable? |
|
|
When the battery is finished, you can dispose
of INSTANT POWER batteries in the same way that you dispose
of your alkaline batteries. They are safe and environmentally
friendly, and therefore can even be disposed of with your
household trash. Like primary alkaline batteries, INSTANT
POWER batteries are recyclable. However, there are currently
no commercial recycling facilities available anywhere in
the world for either alkaline or zinc-air batteries. For
this reason, companies like Duracell recommend that you
dispose of their alkaline batteries in household trash,
and we share this recommendation.
|
| 10.
How should it be stored? Is it affected by extreme conditions? |
|
|
For optimal performance, INSTANT POWER batteries
should be stored similarly to alkaline batteries, at room
temperature or lower. With a two-year shelf life, the unopened
Electric Fuel INSTANT POWER battery can be kept in a briefcase,
purse, sports-bag or desk drawer and always be fully charged
and ready to use.
As with any battery product, extreme heat (above 60°
C) will accelerate the rate of the battery's loss of capacity.
Storage in extreme cold will not affect the battery, however
when used in the extremely cold conditions (below -5°
C) the battery will have less capacity.
|
| 11.
What happens if I open the foil packaging, but don't use the
battery right away? |
|
|
Though the INSTANT POWER battery is activated
only when attached to your phone, exposure to atmospheric
elements for extended periods will affect its performance.
In order to achieve best results from the INSTANT POWER
battery the foil package should only be opened immediately
before use.
|
| 12.
Will it damage my phone? Is it approved for use? Will it harm
me? |
|
|
INSTANT POWER batteries are UL-tested. They
are safe for your phone, and safe for you to use. Zinc-air
is a proven, safe chemistry used extensively in hearing
aids and pagers, as well as other devices where high energy
and light weight are desired. The Electric Fuel INSTANT
POWER battery contains no heavy metals or hazardous compounds,
and is made of materials that are environmentally benign
and fully recyclable.
|
|
13. Does it work when in a fitted case or pouch? |
|
|
INSTANT POWER batteries require air to operate,
especially when making or receiving a call. The phone may
therefore not operate properly if its "breathing" holes
are blocked. You may carry your phone in your pocket, briefcase
or anywhere else, but we do not recommend using a tight
leather case.
|
| 14.
Does it affect my cellphone's performance? |
|
|
NO. Except for greatly extending the talk
and standby time compared to your rechargeable in addition
to freeing the user from the inconvenience of recharging.
|
| 15.
